Fishing in Sooke

FISH SPECIES

The two main species for saltwater anglers in Sooke are salmon and halibut. Halibut is available at all times, peaking in March-June.

Salmon are in abundance year-round:

  • Chinook — year-round
  • Coho — June-October
  • Pink & Sockeye — August-September
  • Chum — September-November

    Canadian waters are protected in order to help avoid over fishing of our natural resources, and as such, there are limits to the number of pacific salmon you are allowed to catch and keep in the Sooke and Port Renfrew areas.
